Now is not the time to divide our working class unions as it relates to CPS and the upcoming budget challenges. The layoffs of SEIU workers, which get announced to us city Councilmembers at the last moment, isn’t helpful to building solidarity and finding solutions!

Actually there’s a Mayor and a Board of Education that count as management, not the city council.

I stand with SEIU Local 73 as they are facing layoffs by CPS, even under the new CEO who was appointed by Mayor Johnson. The fact that they aren’t even being brought to the table by the administration is unbelievable and unjustifiable, in my opinion!

Fair is fair, and not acknowledging this undermines other critiques. There is much work to do, but we have to recognize progress when it occurs!

President Palmer is 1000000% correct. Taking out a high interest loan to pay off a debt will leave future generations to reckon with billion dollar deficits every year.

Gentrification alert!:

This is a very responsible stance by the new CEO, which was the same stance taken by the prior CEO. That should speak volumes. I do believe the city should be covering the payment as mandated by the state. The city also has more ability to cover the cost than CPS would.

As part of the Cat Sharp District tour, we stopped by Oz Park in Lincoln Park, where candidate Paul for Illinois had a campaign canvass launch! My colleague Alderman Hopkins expressed his support, and the canvass trainings began! It was a great event to be at!
