Yet another interesting #methane paper showing peak emissions in relation to warm & wet (2016!). Very high methane fluxes but complex depending on habitat and site.

Long-term & holistic is key!

Much 'evidence' used to inform policy is based on short-term studies monitoring initial (e.g. disturbance) impacts, which clearly do not translate into long-term trajectories.
And many (cheap) studies are space-for-time (confounding factors), often lacking adequate controls.

Could not resist to finish the Ecological Continuity Trust (ECT) Natural Environment Research Council 2023 CO2-fluxes for our 3 Peatland-ES-UK sites. Further recovery after heather beetle damage on burnt & mown heather plots.
Burnt plots > C-uptake than mown.
Uncut plots increasingly a C source (aging heather ~35+ years old).

The electoral system in this country (UK) is the root of lots that is wrong and is bringing society to its knees. Needs to change. Hopefully soon?!
Caroline Lucas and The Green Party have campaigned for this for a long time 🫰 good reasons for it outlined in this interview.
