Grundpremissen för USAs nya tariffer, att man vill eliminera alla handelsunderskott, är felaktig. Men även givet det så verkar uträkningen innehålla ännu fler fel, exempelvis tveksamma parametervärden från den forskningslitteratur man baserar sin policy på.
