On this day in 1815, Napoleon left Malmaison for the last time. Following his defeat at Waterloo and subsequent abdication, he was now setting out on his final journey, one that would ultimately lead to exile on Saint Helena.

Love this infographic showing the coverage by Parisian newspapers of Napoleon's triumphant 1815 march to Paris. He goes from "ogre" to "Imperial and Royal Majesty" pretty quick. #napoleon #journalism

Plancenoit, Belgium. On 18 June 1815, at the height of the Battle of Waterloo, this square was the scene of horrific fighting between French and Prussian troops. But war had come to this sleepy little village before - in the conscription of its young men into Napoleon's army. 1/

The Battle of Wagram, fought just outside Vienna on 5-6 July 1809, was one of the largest of the Napoleonic Wars. Over 300,000 men fought across two days on a battlefront of over 21km (13 miles). Here’s a few thoughts on visiting the battlefield on foot today. 1/
