It’s strange the TN Republican leadership would take such a position. The referendums would require enabling legislation from both the council and the state before it takes effect. Essentially, the referendums are a poll of the people. As elected leaders, isn’t that what we want?

Funny not funny how members of the @tngop want to bully TN House Democrats, Tennessee Senate Democrats, and everyday Memphians into getting their way instead of doing what’s right for all Tennesseans. Why are they afraid of hearing Memphians’ voices at the ballot box?

It’s ironic that Republicans at the state level say they want to “make Memphis better” but don’t want to allow Memphians to vote on gun control. The party of limited government continuously infringes on the rights of Memphians to self-govern and protect ourselves while throwing

The Secretary of State’s office sent the election commission a letter telling them to remove the gun reform referendums from the November Ballot. Shelby County Election Commission is meeting 2morrow at 11am to vote on removing them. If you’re in Memphis, meet us at 980 Nixon Dr.

This is so dangerous and anti-democratic..and oh yea, illegal. There’s already legal precedent for us to have the referendum on the ballot. But u guess our state has to lose in court to believe that.

If voting didn’t matter why would they send the feds to your meemaw’s house for complaining that she didn’t get her mail in ballot?

A city holding a referendum so that the people can speak does not break state law. To have the threat of Memphis' portion of sales taxes withheld because they made a choice to "hear" the thoughts of their citizens on a state policy that is harmful to their communities is

Today at 10:20am the Memphis City Council filed a lawsuit against the Shelby County Election commission since the commission took the gun reform referendums off the ballot. My money is on the city council 😌
