I was privileged to be a developer during the early years of Internet adoption. I can't believe I get to experience that again with crypto.

Best way to understand China banning Bitcoin (again): "For, in order to turn the individual into a function of the State, his dependence on anything beside the State must be taken from him." - Carl Jung (h/t Robert Breedlove)

I'm enjoying the new #Foundation series on AppleTV, but the computing tech is all handwavey: people swipe at swirley images in the air to indicate that they are doing computing stuff. Takes me right out of it.

The other gripe I have with new #Foundation series on AppleTv is that the architecture is all futuristic brutalist, as if the galaxy-wide civilization got stuck on 60's style architecture.

Then in #Foundation, second episode, there's a scene where someone is ejected from the airlock - a staple of sci-fi shows. But the camera pulls back to show the outside of the spaceship with the airlock clearly labelled "AirLock" - as if we were too dumb to recognize it.

This is either genius or cursed: putting a blockchain on GoogleSheets (via /r/cryptodevs): github.com/nalinbhardwaj/…

Makes me wonder where else you could build a limited function blockchain? In a game like Factorio or Minecraft? In a Jupyter Notebook? (All for fun of course because it's easy enough to put up a real blockchain with hardhat or ganache for example)

1. Why is it that journalists feel like they have to define "butterfly effect" when they use it in an article. I think everyone knows by now. 2. And moreover, why is it that journalists still use "butterfly effect" as a metaphor? It is so tired. wegotthiscovered.com/gaming/a-world…

With the help of this prompt for ChatGPT, I managed to train my first dataset in a Jupyter Notebook: Prompt: I want you to act as a data scientist and code for me. I have a dataset of [describe dataset]. Please build a machine learning model that predict [target variable].

I took a course in machine learning in openai, downloaded a dataset from Kaggle, and then, with ChatGPT's help, trained it! I am very proud of myself! #MachineLearning #ChatGPT

I've been trying to up my chess game this summer. Doing puzzles on chess.com, playing bots, playing humans. My biggest weakness is diagonals. I am always blundering rooks or queens from bishops launching from clear across the board. I am trying to focus on tracking

Big thunderstorm last night, leading to a power failure in my whole part of town. It was around 10 PM so I just went to bed. So looking forward to these power failures being a thing of the past.
