International sanctions have all but prevented adventure travel to the North Pole, Alina Simone writes, on account of the Russians’ unique expertise at building floating-ice camps. on.theatln.tc/zAAUdm4

Thinking of Alex Vilenkin, working as a zookeeper in Kharkiv because he was blacklisted from university for refusing to work with the KGB, holding a clandestine physics journal club after hours at the zoo. Respect.

Lots of doom and gloom going on about the state of the doc market. In this week’s column, a counterpoint courtesy of Sam Green: indiewire.com/2023/04/32-sou… Film Forum IndieWire

Lovely get-together with Eternal Memory Director & Producer Maite Alberdi and Executive Producer Julie Goldman. What an extraordinary film that makes you proud to be in docus.

While there’s certainly not a ton of industry support out there for emerging nonfiction filmmakers, there is at the very least the Fi Documentary Lab. Today #ontheblog: We’re thrilled to welcome seven new #Fellows & six new projects to the #DocLab cohort! bit.ly/3MTWqGd

It's fantastic that WGA and non-WGA writers have come together to fight for equal pay, etc. Why aren't documentary filmmakers doing the same thing? There needs to be some kind reckoning otherwise nothing will change. Being complacent just keeps things at the status quo.

Was just in NYC for a few days to attend a screening of Black Snow a wonderful doc about a fearless woman from Siberia who sacrificed everything in attempt to bring a communities suffering under an environmental crisis to light. Natalia Zubkova is my hero.
