#Ecology is all about diversity and interactions, and I just happily spotted Rob Salguero-Gómez with a little, lovely feline delegate at #BES2023 🐈
#Oaks are such important features on the British landscape. Cecilia Chavana-Bryant, PhD 🇲🇽 🇬🇧 🇬🇷🇺🇸 UCL Geography Woodland Trust🌳 Ancient Tree Forum presenting important work in scanning ancient trees with terrestrial #LIDAR with the #SCATTER project. Here are some magnificent pics! 🌳🌳🌳 #BES2023
Are you based in the UK and would like to join a citizen science project to forecast the distribution of mistletoes? Check out Ollie Spacey‘s interview in the BBC (10:31) on MistleGo! - work supported by The Tree Council and Oxford Biology at SalGo Team - bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/li…
Last call: 3.5 yr postdoc position to join my group SalGo Team at Oxford Biology to work on ecological resilience at DragNet Global closing Jan 8th noon UK. Further details here: salgo.web.ox.ac.uk/vacancies
Huge congratulations to Sam Gascoigne !! It has been an honour to have him in our group and we are all proud of all he has achieved. #SalDontGo #PhDone
[1/2] Check out Beibei Zhang latest paper Remote Sensing in Ecology & Conservation exploring how to derive robust canopy structural metrics from different sources of airborne LiDAR 🛩️🌳 …lpublications.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/rs…
Lovely few days at Knepp Wilding with the Selva Lab! Great to visit Wakehurst aswell, thanks Tommaso Jucker for organising! 🏕️🌳
“Introduce your research group on the first slide” Me: “Okay got it” 🐈 SalGo Team Rob Salguero-Gómez
Our latest paper by Harry Owen compares field and TLS derived measures of #forest #trees and #plots. Assuming crowns are ellipses, spheres and cones overestimates crown area & volume, leading to plot level overestimates of overlap and underestimates of cover. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
Having mostly reviewed stats papers written by ecologists I figured most ecologists were not trained in math notation. Reviewing stats papers written by statisticians has me updating this belief to "everyone should take a second to review math notation." besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…
Forest Research has x3 PAID internships (6 months) available in #pathology (Xylella fastidiosa), #entomology (pinewood nematode) & #SocialSciences (restoring lost trees) through the Centre for Forest Protection Centre for Forest Protection (Oct24 - Apr25) 👇🤯 forestprotection.uk/vacancies-six-…
New paper alert: Tall forests in Borneo have higher rates of disturbance than those in Amazonia. We also provide new open-source LiDAR data. Global Change Biology dx.doi.org/10.1111/gcb.17… Thanks to: Tommaso Jucker Department of Plant Sciences University of Bristol Biological Sciences Eric Gorgens AMAP and others not on here
Are you interested in building and comparing canopy height models (CHMs) using LiDAR? Then check out our latest paper Methods in Ecology and Evolution where we explore how to do this well and what happens if you don’t! besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/20… Here’s a short🧵summarising our key takeaways ..
