That's just what time is.

A giant building boom and technological acceleration is what global sustainability looks like, in 2017.

Which means that effective sustainability advocacy now demands learning to support large players building huge new systems rapidly at scale.

A whole host of sustainable living/ community transition/ culture change approaches can no longer lead to the huge, fast changes we now need

And that means that sustainability is a fight now. Polluters successfully delayed action long enough that all the easy transitions are gone.

That means that even in the best (easiest) cases, there will be jolting economic leaps, abandoned assets and lifestyle changes.

Because if a given pathway doesn't limit choices to low-impact choices, it's no longer a strong enough path to meet our planetary crisis.

It also means that change has to be systemic, altering the functioning of our cities and their transport systems, energy systems etc

It also means that approaches which might produce change, but take a long time to get rolling, are no longer useful.

This means that whole hosts of approaches that once might have been adequate, no longer are.

The steepening of the curves we face grows with each year we fail to take adequately bold action. E.g., the curves on climate emissions

The curves of action we now need are very different now than they were even a decade ago—profoundly different than they were in, say, 1970.
