One last point is this is why “fascism” has been historically difficult to define, because it’s not averse to adopting different rhetorical positions as long as they’re advantageous. This also affords them a lot of plausible deniability.

Fascism is to democracy, as capitalism is to socialism. It’s a process that concentrates power in as few hands as possible, and I am not at all surprised to see fascists embrace groups as disparate as white environmentalists, feminists, incels and the religious right.

After the 2016 election, a lot of the feminists I spoke to took issue with my contention that Trump demonstrably mobilized people by appealing to white supremacy, instead of misogyny.

Many of those women are now far right extremists. So there’s that.

The pussy hat to TERF pipeline was very real, and TERFs have adopted anti-immigrant, anti-Semitic, anti-black and homophobic rhetoric. Trans exclusionary feminists were apparently very amenable to fascist radicalization, they’ve virtually abandoned mainstream feminist positions.
