Fancy footwork and a take-off from Mammoth the common murre during this scale session feeding! Mammoth, this week's Bird of the Week, will turn 13 this July! He, just like his love interest Magma, loves to come up to scale sessions to stand around and hope for free food 😂

We gave our veterinary team a GoPro to document a voluntary blood draw with Forrest, our male Steller sea lion! In this video, you'll see a first-hand glimpse of what being on the ASLC vet team is like, including mentoring some of our incredible interns 💙

Tuft growing season is in full swing! Tufted puffins molt their primary feathers in the fall and start growing their tufts in at the end of December. The tufts will be fully grown around the end of April, just in time for breeding season!

It's one of our favorite days of the year: International Day of the Seal! How does the ASLC and the seals here support ice seal science? Experts from the ASLC, the University of California Santa Cruz, and other partner institutions collaborate on the "PHOCAS" project.

There's no place like Seward, Alaska ❤️ We're fortunate to share our home with incredible wildlife from the land and ocean. Let's work together to protect and respect them by keeping our distance and using a big zoom on cameras or phones while observing from a distance.

Even ASLC staff don’t get to see the northern abalones move frequently, as these unique gastropods are primarily sedentary. Except for feeding time, that is! Abalones clamp down kelp with their foot and then munch with their radula, a tongue-like band with many small teeth.

What do you think… do we need to share more ice seal stories? Seal scientists like Taku support our research programs and inspire our visitors. Who wants to see us start a new *Ice Seal Sundays* series to bring you more seal science stories??
