Psychoanalysis, like religion and medicine, turns panic into meaning. It makes fear bearable by making it interesting. And it does this in the most ordinary way: through conversation with another person.

“If we can find the magic self-help book or therapist or personal trainer or Instagram filter, we will truly be able to get rid of the parts of ourselves we feel ashamed of, or hate…It is a powerful fantasy.”

We need to stop children growing up feeling that emotions such as “angry,” “sad,” or “worried” are bad emotions.

They are not!

They are normal, healthy emotions and we need to encourage children to recognise when they feel them so that they can then learn how to regulate them.

Why is the right environment essential for neurodivergent people?

Because, the wrong environment will ultimately lead to two outcomes:

- Masking your true authentic self - or
- Meltdown or shutdown because being your self leads to you being judged, punished or invalidated.
