> #CitizenAssembly will recommend specific system.
=
That will be their job, but also to set out why they
consider that system to be best for UK.
Their report *could* also identify plan B for event
that their recommendation not accepted.
Yes, debate *then* should be about system.
> Ordinary public do not want constitutional upheaval.
=
Adoption of #FairVotes would not be major upheaval.
Introduction of #STV in #LocalGovt in #Scotland is
exemplar of how it can be welcomed by public.
Paramount among such concerns should be issue if
#ElectoralReform - to stop cycle repeating after 2029.
=
This is about where we want to be in five years time.
Matthew is right to be concerned.

Brexit *could* work if UK were to rejoin #EEA and with
it #SingleMarket .
=
However, member for #StPancras opposes that and
he is leader of party without internal democracy as
to policy.
AV is fine in individual constituencies but its collective
effect can be horrendous.
51% of vote in 51% of seats could mean govt by 26%!
(OK in practice needs over 35% - still short of 50%)
=
AV has Key principle of #transferability
but cannot give it effective expression.
Written Constitution may be a 'nicety' in a world where 'my word is my bond' can be trusted but that age is behind us with 'winner taks all' more dominant. = PR (in form of #FairVotes ) is *essential* to well-being of UK residents - to prevent elective dictatorships as recently.

> #CitizenAssembly is good idea.
Agreed!
> It sorts options and preferences but is not binding.
Agreed.
(Process is outlined in appended jpg document).
> There is no way to force Labour.
Of course - electoral arithmetic is supreme.
Labour should get relatively easy ride but public
support #FairVotes and will not be best pleased
if Labour oppose it in parlt (nor will Lab members
be very happy!).
Rebecca is correct that #VONC is unlikely in hung parlt;
(this is #Confidence / #Supply support).
That is not point; getting legislation through is vital - and
that might be more difficult if no deal on #FairVotes !
=
> In hung parlt, opposition parties will not cooperate.
=
They will not agree on everything - but finding allies in
right-wing parties unlikely.
Appt of #CitizenAssembly and 'pencilling in 2027 for
ER legislation' not big ask for Labour to gain easier
ride for its priorities.
