From March to April 1927, the two pilots made 27 round trips, covering 9,806 kilometres from Cache Lake, Manitoba to Churchill. The flights were made in an open cockpit Fokker aircraft through severe weather. Mechanical breakdowns were common. 🧵 4/6

They also transported 14 men and 8,116 kilograms of supplies to Churchill so work could begin on the projects. This was the first large airlift operation in Canadian history and within two years, Churchill's ocean port was officially opened. 🧵 5/6
