Deeply disheartening news. I spoke to Mary Hampton from St. John the Baptist Parish about this decision, and she was devastated. Hampton said she's lost several family members to cancer, including her older brother, who recently died from the disease.

The proposed rule fails to protect people living near the facilities because EPA requires no reductions at all in some of the most toxic pollution that steel mills emit. Additionally, it allows steel mills to continue emitting hundreds of tons of arsenic, chromium, and lead.

Steel mills emit more than 300 tons of lead emissions in the U.S. annually. These mills are especially dangerous to the people working in them, who are 500% more likely to get lung cancer than the average person. Tell U.S. EPA to strengthen the rules now. bit.ly/3sGkfd7

We’re suing U.S. EPA to set stronger limits for petrochemical plants releasing carcinogenic air pollution. The agency needs to update limits for petrochemical plants making polyether polyols — chemicals used in consumer products like cosmetics, soaps, & more.

We won’t let bad actors win. The good neighbor rule "will reduce asthma symptoms for millions of Americans, keep thousands of people out of the hospital, and save over a thousand lives each year,” said Earthjustice's Kathleen Riley. cnn.com/2023/10/18/pol…

Unequal exposure to pollution is cutting people’s lives short. But states are pushing back on environmental justice communities who use the Civil Rights Act’s Title VI to fight for their right to clean air and water. It’s time U.S. EPA sticks to its promise. bit.ly/45Me0SM

Discriminatory permitting practices placed poor communities in the center of hazardous facilities, increasing their chances of getting fatal diseases like cancer. These communities need overdue relief, but states are standing in the way of justice. bit.ly/45Me0SM

Telephone and internet communications with #Gaza appear to have been shut off. We are currently unable to get in touch with any of our colleagues there, while heavy bombardment has been reported.

People in Gaza are dying in the darkness. This unthinkable horror cannot be undone — and history will not forgive those who refused to treat Israeli and Palestinian lives with equal worth. Please, we need a ceasefire, now.

“The first national poll of Arab Americans since the war in Gaza began shows how deep that sense of betrayal goes, with only 17% of Arab American voters saying they will vote for Biden in 2024—a staggering drop from 59% in 2020.” time.com/6330102/biden-…

Our clients in Louisiana have been fighting for stronger health protections for decades. They almost got them, but then U.S. EPA stopped it from happening. apnews.com/article/epa-lo…

“EPA followed the science, listened to impacted communities, and proposed one of the strongest chemical regulations in recent history,” Earthjustice Attorney Jonathan Kalmuss-Katz said. “Some chemicals are simply too harmful to remain on the market.” apnews.com/article/tce-ep…

Big deal!! I met with Robert Taylor and his daughter Trish who live in a neighborhood at the fence line of Denka, a chemical plant that emits high levels of cancer-causing air toxics. This rule will require that company to clean up some of its mess.

BREAKING: @SCOTUS ruling against the Good Neighbor Plan is a setback for public health and environmental justice. Without these critical protections, vulnerable communities will suffer from increased air pollution. We will continue to fight for clean air. earthjustice.org/press/2024/sup…
