My council has dug up roads for cycle lanes, built LTNs, and put up surveillance cameras, 20 mph zones and various 'traffic calming' approaches.

But refuse collection has moved to every 2 weeks.

Spend is about priorities, which is about ideology and not services.....

At the end of the day, the greatest privilege of my job is working with people who are driven by mission. These last 5 days, I saw people across OpenAI remaining calm and resolute in driving their mission despite all that was happening around them. And I saw people across…

The twists and turns of the OpenAI leadership drama continue.

In no less than a stroke of genius, Satya Nadella somehow convinced Sam Altman +Greg Brockman over the weekend to join Microsoft in a new research group. As many as 500 of their previous staff are likely to join Sam and Greg.…

What is shocking is not the warning given 30 years ago to the UN by the UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on the threat to our global environment through climate change - youtube.com/watch?v=VnAzoD… - but the lack of inaction since then.

It's a very London (middle class) bubble view that poor people don't drive. It is possible to not drive when good public transport is available (aka Inner London). It is not in Outer London (hence ULEZ protests) or nearly anywhere else in the UK - you need a car to do most things

Get with the Official Program - The Planet is boiling.

BBC News these days amounts to Luegenpresse wrt many issues (especially Climate).

The 'high point' was when even their own weather unit wasn't showing the temperatures they claimed were occurring over the last 2 weeks

Air quality in Outer London this week by WHO measures:
Bromley - Good iqair.com/uk/england/bro…
Croydon - Good iqair.com/uk/england/cro…
Enfield - Good
iqair.com/uk/england/enf…
Hayees - Good
iqair.com/uk/england/hay…
Romford - Good iqair.com/uk/england/rom…

Bad air pollution point is BS

If they haven't bought another car, it *will* be a lot greener than someone who has had 3 'green' cars in the same time period. The real CO2 burn is in car making, (and scrapping if EV) not driving. And Diesels burn less CO2 than petrol, the rules changed re what 'pollution' is.

I attach the air quality in Croydon at present - 'Good - meets WHO guidelines' (from iqair.com). This has got nothing to do with health and everything to do about money - but taxing the less well off to buy middle class votes is a disgrace.

Dion’s analysis is spot on. Many things about are definitely a surprise, but this is game changer that will take 2-3 years to make its dramatic impact.

That was the London outcome as well - the poor paid for the clean air plans. Just to rub it in, they then put in LTNs to take traffic off leafy middle class roads and dump it onto roads passing mass housing, so the poor keep getting polluted air.

I don't think anyone has looked carefully at the implications of all these things coming together at once in a short of time.

There needs to be a conversation rather then the current tactic of nudging, hectoring and edicting ppl into a future no one's analysed or agreed to.
