At what point did the Prophet started calling that period ‘jahiliyyah’? If we extrapolate to today, how prevalent should a people’s ignorance (that includes arrogance, chauvinism, and/or violent inclinations) be to justify naming an entire generation/time as such again?

We talk a lot about unrequited love, but not unrequited friendship. It's that polite 'no' to invitations to hang, that seeping realization that someone does not like you back that much to want to spend time with you—it's subtler, but prolly chips away at your heart just the same.
