Hypocrisy is exhausting because you’re constantly working to keep up an image that’s fake. One reason many are fed up with church is because they feel the need to pretend like they fit into a perfect community that doesn’t actually exist. This means instead of actually confessing

The Gospel of John is a great book to recommend for new or not-yet Christians, because it’s a detailed argument for faith in Jesus. John treats his readers like jurors as he lays out the case for Jesus by marshaling witnesses and evidence (signs).

History is filled with the stories of men and women who thought they were failures, and lived what they felt like were rather inconsequential lives, but whose steady and quiet faithfulness yielded a later harvest that they could have never imagined. Keep pressing on.

Penal substitution can be articulated crudely (e.g., in a way that divides the Trinity). But in essence, it is a biblical, ancient, and Trinitarian way to understanding the atonement. Further, it can be integrated with other models--and even shed light on them.

Being a good witness for Christ isn’t about having all the answers, but helping people to see and connect with Jesus. Jesus does the converting, a good witness just helps to arrange the meeting. Sometimes your best line is, “Come and see!”

As a general rule, believers should be known for their gracious and respectful speech, not their "edginess." This is also true when it comes to speaking with (or about) unbelievers and struggling Christians. We use the Pauline or Prophetic edge on wolves and hypocrites. On those
