Our statement on CEC District 2’s despicable resolution targeting trans girls, which has no place in New York City.

Women deserve to be safe in New York City—everywhere. The gender-based violence that took place on 4th Avenue is absolutely reprehensible. Women have every right to reject advances. When they are harmed as a result for doing so, it should shake all of us to our core.

We applaud the Senate for including #NYHEAT & the Climate Superfund Act in their budget proposal.

Now, we just need the Assembly to match that energy. “No policy in the budget” is not an excuse.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in our subways, but militarizing our MTA will do far more harm than good. As a public defender I have seen firsthand that safety is achieved through providing stability. Carceral responses have proven time and time again not to serve us.
