Sad to see Graham stepping down; he has very much been on the pragmatic side of the Conservative debate on climate and energy.

Really interesting polling. The key finding for me is how much the public dislike measures to reduce demand for flying that aren't fiscal; the politics of flight demand reduction look really hard compared to actively decarbonising aviation.

Exactly this

Some people say ‘but what about embedded carbon of EVs, wind turbines etc etc’

Unsurprisingly we’re using the technology of today to build the technology of tomorrow

Stuff we’re building today will allow us to build stuff in the future with no embedded carbon

The interesting question is how much of that gas was necessary to meet demand and how much was necessary for system management under current arrangements. The next step for power decarbonisation is running the system without any gas, abated or unabated.

Willing to bet this was modded to have a higher top speed and thus wasn't compliant with regulations. Proof once again that regulations are pointless if you don't enforce them.

This is an amazing example of why political interference in building things is simply wrong.
