And then, of course, there was this from Shayla M. and Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles — yup, definitely not a moment of kindness from the poverty bureaucracy.

We're glad the city is backing off of these sweeps. This is a win for organizers who have been asking them to do this for days. Damage has already been done by sweeps yesterday and today. But its good to see the city acknowledging that these sweeps are harmful.

The community had to threaten to sue the City for them to stop sweeps for just the next few days. People are forced to die daily because of policies that are in place to do just that. We need more affordable, habitable, and available housing.
