I had discussions with political leaders on long-overdue elections, now 2 years delayed. According to my talks, there is hope for compromise. The absence of elections not only signals a democracy deficit in KRI but also stalls vital reforms impacting citizens' well-being.

لەگەڵ سەرکردە سیاسییەکان باسی هەڵبژاردنمان کرد کە زیاتر لە دوو ساڵە دواکەوتووە. بەپێی گفتوگۆکانم, هیوایەک هەیە بۆ سازش. نەبوونی هەڵبژاردن نەک هەر ئاماژەیە بۆ کورتهێنانی دیموکراسی لە کوردستان بەڵکو چاکسازییە گرنگەکانیش دەوەستێنێت کە کاریگەرییان لەسەر خۆشگوزەرانی هاوڵاتیان هەیە.

I welcome the announcement by KRG Presidency to hold the election on 20 October, we have worked closely with both regional and federal governments, all Kurdish political actors and the UN to make this happen. Political decisions in KRI will again have full democratic legitimacy.

Had productive discussions with Thomas Seiler 🇪🇺 🇮🇶 Klemens Semtner, the #EU Ambassador to #Iraq EU in Iraq 🇪🇺🇮🇶, about the latest political and humanitarian situation, with particular focus on the upcoming elections in #Kurdistan and the urgent need for continued support for IDPs and refugees

I received EU in Iraq 🇪🇺🇮🇶 Ambassador Thomas Seiler, accompanied by a representative in Erbil. I briefed them on the current developments, KRI forthcoming elections, and Erbil-Baghdad relations. We also discussed the conditions of refugees/IDPs and their safe return to their homes.

I concluded my 4 days mission to KRI with a stop at Rudaw, where I had good discussions on media in KRI. I value the professional journalism at Rudaw.

I thank the President Nechirvan Barzani for the frank discussion. I reiterated that the reestablishment of security in Sinjar would greatly facilitate the EU’s concrete support for Yazidis.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani thanked Torkild Byg, outgoing Head of the #EU Office, for his services and successful mission in Erbil. Current developments, role and participation of international and EU observers in ensuring fair and transparent October elections were tabled.

Welcomed Mr. Radu Eugen Butum, new EU representative in the Kurdistan Region, and affirmed KRG’s support for a successful tenure. We engaged in a discussion on the regional situation, emphasizing the importance of boosting cooperation in key sectors.
