Dental caries aren't just a modern human woe; they've been around for ages! Study on prevalence among non-human primates, sheds light on diet & dental health across species. Fascinating insights from wild populations to fossil relatives! Selig et al: doi.org/10.1002/ar.254โ€ฆ

This may be one of the biggest papers I ever have the privilege to be part of. Out now in Science Magazine, we ask: Are nature conservation interventions working? The answer is YES. We now need to fund MORE to reverse global biodiversity declines. science.org/doi/10.1126/scโ€ฆ ๐Ÿงต

Thanks to an amazing opportunity from the The Leverhulme Trust, I will be spearheading a research project studying lizard enamel evolution, starting in October! What can the study of enamel in lizards tell us about the evolution of our own teeth? We're gonna find out!

We palaeontologists like to use Komodo dragons as a model for understanding how meat-eating dinosaurs used their teeth to cut and tear through their prey. But how well do we know our Komodo dragon model? Find out shortly! (Photo: Charlotte Ellis/ZSL)

It turns out...Komodo dragons have iron-coated teeth! nature.com/articles/s4155โ€ฆ Their serrations and tips pop into the mouth with an orange hue. Using different techniques, we show that these iconic lizards have special iron-rich coatings on each tooth, keeping them razor sharp!

Scientists have found Komodo dragons, the largest lizards in the world, have iron coated teeth. Aaron LeBlanc (Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences at King's) says the study gives us clues to how dinosaurs like the T-rex may have ripped apart their prey #ScienceatKings Read moreโฌ‡๏ธ theguardian.com/environment/arโ€ฆ
