Coaches tell players who don’t play much to “keep working; your time will come.” And it will, usually when you least expect it. So when your number gets called, be ready. Stay prepared. Stay hungry. You can’t cheat player development . Keep stacking days. It takes what it takes.

Being a high school multi-sport athlete should be encouraged, not discouraged. As a varsity coach, I support players competing in other sports. The problem isn’t multi-sport participation—it’s coaches expecting year-round priority. That’s control, not development.

I still call my high school coach “Coach” 30 years later. That’s not habit — that’s respect.
