💥 A gut microbe metabolite that drives #atherosclerosis? Yes—Imidazole propionate (ImP) triggers vascular inflammation without changing cholesterol. 🧪 We show the pathway—and how to block it. nature.com/articles/s4158… #OpenAccess at nature CNIC #microbiome #CVD

#EpigeneticPower! Our #NewPaper Immunity shows that endogenous oxidized lipids decide whether host survives or dies during #sepsis, #ARDS, or Staph infection! Ox lipids bind & inhibit #AKT, boosting inhibitory H3K27 methylation via EZH2, blocking #IL10! authors.elsevier.com/a/1lS0g3qNrU-i…

Proud to share Jose M. Adrover’s (new PI The Francis Crick Institute) paper: As a postdoc (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory/Johns Hopkins Medicine), he found #NETs in necrotic tumors—I shrugged. But he looked closer: NETs block tumor vessel perfusion, causing necrosis, hypoxia, EMT & #Metastasis. nature.com/articles/s4158… @JHU_BDP nature

Are mice humans? obviously not, but stopping NHP calls is not going to fix that. No in vitro system can replace in vivo. We are VERY FAR from understanding how ANY TWO (never mind three or more) body systems work together. You are not going to cure diseases without in vivo work.

Yesterday was tough. It was the 1st time I shared real concerns about the lab financial situation with the group. Although I have incredible people, I still feel bad laying this on them but we have to make painful cuts and decisions so folks have jobs 😔 #newPI

The Trump administration has found a new trick to massively impact effective NIH funding to all academics. Will Jay Bhattacharya, MD, PhD go along with this? Or will he stand up for science and do what is right? Link in next message 1/

This is your friendly reminder to call your senators today, wherever you are, and urge them to prevent this multi-year funding scheme. The future of my lab, and so many others, rely on this 🙏🙏

Kudos to Wenceslao, our PhD student, for a fantastic score on his 1st F31 submission 🥳 No we just need to hope that F31s are still funded come October 😒😬

👇👇Check out our new paper on #SAH in ATVB: An AHA Journal We found that targeting neutrophil integrin α9 improves long-term recovery by reducing inflammation and enhancing #Efferocytosis. Congratulations to the incredible team, especially first author Dr. Kaur for this study!

The goal of a PhD is not to learn some facts or read a few papers or learn a bunch of techniques. The goal of a PhD is to learn independence, problem solving, how to finish things you start, resilience, & gain the ability to adapt & think creatively. Learning these things is hard
