Each year on the first Sunday in May, we remember those who died during the longest continuous military campaign of the Second World War.

The 2nd battle of Bullecourt was fought from 3-17 May 1917. The enemy trench was taken and held at the heavy cost of 7,000 Australian casualties. This sign was found by the Australian War Records Section at Bullecourt in May 1919 and is associated with the battles in 1917.

Taken 106 years ago today, this photo shows Australian servicemen finding a moment of respite in a support trench near Villers-Bretonneux, despite the constant barrage of shellfire – a recent explosion having just rocked the trench, with a wounded man seen being helped out.

Today we remember Lance Corporal Frederick McRae Neal, who was killed on this day in 1915 at Gallipoli, during the First World War. He was buried on 1 May 1915 near Courtney's Post with a brief service.

Frederick Neal was just 22 years old.

Lest we Forget.

At 4:43 am, when Private Robert Hartley jumped into the water to land with the 9th Battalion at Anzac Cove, the watch in his pocket was covered in salt water.

Unbeknownst to Hartley his watch was permanently frozen at the exact time he landed.
