Harriet Turner* has quantified the solar wind forecasting gains we should expect from data assimilation (DA) of L5 in situ observations. DA even beats corotation forecasts (which are for a single point in the heliosphere and so can't be used to simulate CME transit).

The 2023 update of the UK Government's National Risk Register has been published today. Interesting that impact of severe space weather has been increased from “Moderate” in the previous (2020) document to “Significant”in the latest version. #SpaceWeather gov.uk/government/pub…

⚠️DO NOT point a telescope at the sun. This was done using special equipment. The sun put on a great show today. These massive prominences are many times larger than Earth, illustrating how the sun's powerful magnetic field shapes the incredible solar atmosphere.

I traveled halfway across the world to try and take the best photo of the Milky Way I could. After spending a full month on it, the resulting image is my most detailed and most complete photo of our home galaxy. What do you think, was it worth the effort?

We've made some predictions for the CME(s) observed at Solar Orbiter on 18th March! We should be seeing them arrive at Earth later this evening, all the way into tomorrow. And look at that Southwards magnetic field 👀 We're expecting a double-dip geomagnetic storm, so auroras! 🌞
