On this day, 20th August 1977, the single greatest shot in television history was filmed. James Burke had one chance to film this perfectly timed launch of Voyager 2 at Cape Canaveral. If he missed, there would have been no chance to re shoot it.

#OTD 1st Sep 1939 BBC Television Service closed for duration of World War II. No closing announcement was made. The tuning signal sequence shown here has been truncated - it lasted for 22 minutes. Vision transmitter was later used in the war for national defence of the country.
