Zounds! 🤦🏻 Prince Albert apologised for slavery 140 years ago & Sir Tony Blair apologised as recently as 2007. How often must we do this? Should it be an annual event? One might've thought the fact WE abolished the transatlantic slave trade would buy us a little credit. 🤷‍♂️

I read Essex Echo mainly for the comments. I salute the guy who's come up w/ nickname 'Andy Bygraves' for me & clearly appreciates my florid prose style. Used to get Roy Orbison a lot &, increasingly, Jonah Hill in his "Wolf of Wall Street" guise. echo-news.co.uk/news/24669251.…

In Germany, if you send your children to private school, you can claim 30% of the tuition fees, capped at €5,000 per annum, per child as a tax deduction. Meanwhile Britain has become a country which punishes people for going private.

Something deeply disturbing about hearing hundreds of Labour MPs cheering the introduction of VAT on schools fees. Huge numbers of children with special needs both in the independent sector and state will pay the price. Yet this all comes secondary to the the misguided class

Utter trash journalism from ST, who've apparently only just discovered existence of ancient Duchies of Lancaster & Cornwall. Much of this 'news' can be found in respective annual reports. Tabloid hacks every one. 😠

"WAAAH the king costs us eleventy bajillion tax dollars! (He doesnt btw) He should make his own money" "Waaahh!!! The king is using his land to make money!!" These are not serious people.

This from one #XTwitter correspondent off the back of last night's Channel 4 Despatches programme on the #DuchiesofLancasterandCornwall - some important and conveniently ignored facts. 1 The income from both Duchies has been voluntarily taxed since 1993. 2 The day-to-day

And this is what frustrates Murdoch, Channel 4 hacks and other republicans, monarchs being outside politics can unify and encourage in a way that no partisan figure of a PM or president could. Sanchez left the scene with his tail between his legs…

Interestingly, President Trump is now only the 2nd man in US history to have won two non-consecutive terms as President. The other was the 22nd & 24th President, Grover Cleveland, who was President from 1885 to '89 and again from 1893 to '97. He was a former Governor of New York.

Another record-breaking cohort of fmr PMs at today's ceremony at the Cenotaph. Sir Keir Starmer was joined by his 8 predecessors - Sir John Major, Sir Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton, Baroness May of Maidenhead, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss & Rishi Sunak.

Thing about Farage is, he's reliable. Every time I find myself of cusp of taking him even vaguely seriously, he pulls a pathetic stunt like moaning about not being entitled to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph, & I instantly remember what a fundamentally trivial, unserious man he is.

For those who think that the Queen is not qualified to make a documentary against domestic violence, you should blame why no public figure except the Queen was willing to reply to the charity 15 years ago. Only the then future Queen Camilla was willing to help them, so we are

£600 a year across six sites is a peppercorn rent: a small amount that is legally required to create a lease and therefore give the RNLI tenants’ rights worth way more than £600. King Charles isn’t literally giving it away to the RNLI - His Majesty is doing far better than that.
