In DC Mayor Muriel Bowser set a goal of zero pedestrian and cyclist deaths by 2024. Last year the total preventable deaths was higher than before her Vision Zero initiative started so she postponed the goal by several years instead of having DDOT make any significant safety changes.

In Street Sense's new issue, you'll find a story from one of our interns about the police detaining a pregnant Black woman during an encampment closure. Police held the woman, Tavoncia, in a police van for an hour, handcuffed, while the city cleared her encampment. (1/4)

Another cyclist hit in Sherman Circle this morning, on the south side of the Circle as a vehicle exited onto Kansas. Driver waited at the scene and fortunately the cyclist seems unharmed. But we await DDOT DC responding to ANC 4D about how to keep improving safety on the Circle.

Thank you to whomever did this. I've been meaning to attach a pool noodle to this wire since DDOT DC isn't going to fix it.

I keep thinking about this police stat. 300+ suspensions and firing of police officers would equate to ~9% of the entire MPD force if most of these were not repeat offenders. Continuously hiring more police without addressing massive internal conduct issues is problematic.

Which bands are people looking forward to seeing? A neighbor on Rock Creek Church Road hosts Hungarian folk bands each year. I love hearing music I would never have had the opportunity to listen to before.

From what I can tell - crash involving at least three cars on Conn Ave near 5000 block of Conn Ave around 6pm tonight.

I saw car drivers using gas station to circumvent crash site, and saw two backed up L2 buses stuck and unable to go around.

This is purely the fault of Mayor Muriel Bowser and DDOT DC. She announced safety enhancements to Connecticut Ave in December 2021 and reversed course this month. On Earth Day no less. No worries about safety, downtown, or the climate.

I would follow a Metro Forward account that just explains how all this typically unseen work happens and what each part does. You had me at grout pads. Tell me more.

Beautiful day to mow a lawn and trim some hedges. But then I saw someone in a DSA shirt canvassing my street. So I stopped every 30 seconds for them to knock on the next door and talk to voters. Grass and hedges look much better.

DDOT's project was on track to take longer than the Apollo moon program. And now they've given up on it altogether. What a waste of time, money, and ultimately lives.
