Labour migration (LM) is central to ECOWAS integration & development, with 3.74 million migrant workers recorded in 2017—46% of them women & youth. The Region's LM Strategy & Action Plan is being validated to tackle challenges & harness the full potential of labour migration.

Labour migration (LM) drives economic growth in West Africa. With over $40B in annual remittances (World Bank, 2023), it fuels livelihoods, education & SMEs. From 13–15 May, ECOWAS States will validate a regional LM strategy to maximise its benefits & address key challenges.

From May 13–15, Ecowas - Cedeao, in collaboration with the AUC, IOM - UN Migration 🇺🇳 & International Labour Organization will validate its comprehensive Labour Migration Strategy and Action Plan. This strategy addresses contemporary labour migration challenges & ways to harness opportunities for regional development.

#Happening ECOWAS Member States have convened in Accra to validate a Labour Migration Strategy and Action Plan for the regional body. The strategy envisions a future where labour migration drives development, dignity, and opportunity across West Africa.
