The August grocery distribution event at Fairlington United Methodist Church (3900 King Street) will be held on August 20th. Alexandria City residents in need of food assistance are able to pick up groceries from 5pm-6:30pm. More at: alive-inc.org

Thanks to Bookstore Movers who helped ALIVE! by sending a truck and a team to deliver donated furniture to two families. Because of their generosity, empty rooms are now spaces for laughter, friendship and even Sunday football! What a gift!

As the government shutdown continues and benefit payments are at risk of being delayed, Alexandrians are turning to ALIVE! for food, housing, and stability. Here are a few examples of what you can do to help Alexandrians in need.

Councilman John T. Chapman is hosting along with the City of Alexandria a Utility Resource Fair. People will connect with utility companies and other agencies that serve the city, giving them an opportunity to find out about payment relief or money-saving opportunities.

Tuesday our volunteers and staff served 164 families at a pop-up distribution event in collaboration with Department of Human Services to address the extended need among SNAP recipients and people impacted by the federal shutdown! Thank you to everyone who volunteered or donated!

It's time for this year's Scouting for Food! If you received a sticker from Scouting America, remember to put it with your food on your porch by tomorrow so the scouts know to come pick up your food.

Thank you Thursday! This Saturday our 20 volunteers helped 9 families receive furniture including 47 items. We are so thankful to our volunteer team and First Christian Church for helping families have a bed to sleep on, tables for family dinners!

Our very own Elisa Demorizi earned the Volunteer of the Year award at the reception for volunteers event organized by Senior Services. She does AMAZING work at our food hubs and she is great at connecting seniors to resources around the City of Alexandria. Yay Elisa!
