Don Scott - Chief Software Engineer for Marine AI heading back to Toronto but keeping tabs on Mayflower the entire way! That's what we call 'remote monitoring' His flight path is too far north so he won’t see the boat IRL and he doesn't have a window seat either. #marineautonomy

MAS has developed a mechanical issue with its generator. The project lead, ProMare, made the decision to bring the ship in to the Azores to investigate and fix it. The IBM technology remains functioning. The team hopes to be back underway with the transatlantic crossing ASAP.

MAS is now in the Azores. The project lead, Promare, has identified the issue as a switch that failed. It is not essential for autonomous operation. The team has run tests, re-fuelled and are waiting for a bad weather system to pass the Azores before MAS resumes its voyage.

Today MAS left Horta, Azores to continue the crossing from the UK to USA. We will try to complete the 2225 mile voyage in 16 days. Start conditions were near perfect with light winds and little swell. This re-start was the first time the team have undertaken a “remote” start.

We're more than 50% done with our journey and haven't seen many animals so far, just these dolphins which RS Aqua Ltd's hydrophone recorded. Can you spot them?

Over May 28-29, MAS developed an issue with the charging circuit for the generator starter batteries. On May 30, the team had to switch to the back-up navigation PC. ProMare has made the decision to divert to Halifax, Nova Scotia to investigate and fix these issues. (1 of 2)

We are continuing to stress all the systems to their limit and are learning a tremendous amount about how to design, build and operate autonomous vessels. The team hopes to be in Halifax by June 4-5. (2 of 2)
