World Curlew Day is April 21st - a good time to remember that in Ireland 🇮🇪 there are fewer than 100 pairs left across the whole country. Yep, that's right - under 100 pairs. We put people on the moon, we have AI, but we can't live alongside wild and beautiful birds.
🤬😰💀

Thanks to any of you that bought a ‘Kelp’ tea towel or commissioned a pet commemoration design in 2023. For Luna’s Legacy, I’ve donated a % of all these sales to DroghedaAnimalRescue, from where we rescued Luna and her sister, Seren, back in 2007.

My Mam tells me that, in the early 1970s, Corncrakes bred near our home in Co Kilkenny, that a hen and chicks walked across the road in front of us. None heard there for a long time. Devastating what negative effects ‘progress’ has had on our wealth of wildlife.

So delighted to see Swallows and House Martins return safely today. I’ve been scanning the skies for days looking for them. The House Martin whirled round above the garden and flew straight into one of the nest boxes on our house. “If you build it they will come.” 💚

Overproduction. Polluting the environment and local water supplies. Silage bales from two years ago left to rot. Slurry being spread onto saturated ground, wrecking soil structure, polluting water and air. Many intensive Irish dairy farmers are NOT guardians of the countryside!

One of the great impediments to is Shifting Baseline Syndrome: that generational shift in what is perceived to be 'normal' in the natural world. Understand this and you view it through a new lens. A lens that is both depressing, but also full of inspiring possibilities
