An older person is a victim of a scam every 40 seconds..and this, of course, has a terrible effect on their health and well being.. Age Cymru Gwent supported an incredible 1,273 older people in 2023 to avoid falling victim, within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board area.
Our “Robins” volunteers supported an incredible 2,656 older people in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board hospitals this March. The Red shirt shining as a beacon of kindness.
So proud of this service and the difference it makes.

Please vote Age Cymru Gwent and help us continue to provide life changing services for 70,000 plus people throughout Aneurin Bevan University Health Board area.
It’s always wonderful to see St John Ambulance Cymru volunteers recognised for their marvellous work in Welsh Communities. I’m particularly pleased this year to see my old friend Maisie Sloan recognised for her compassionate care for older people. ❤️
Well done everyone!
When Gwent formed its first older person’s welfare committee in 1951, there were 30,000 people over the age of 65 in the county.
Currently , there are 57,000 people over 75, never mind over 65.
Age Cymru Gwent has a proud history, but is needed now more than ever.
Still so proud to have developed this service for St John Ambulance Cymru. The idea was first developed in a little cafe in Nantgarw, many lives have been changed for the better throughout Wales since then.
It’s good to see this report recognising that charities are essential to solving the current health and care crisis. Health and Care needs transformational change, older people deserve better. Age Cymru Gwent looks forward to playing its part in the coming years.
Saddened to hear of the passing of Larry Petterson this week, a wonderful mentor for me and a huge part of St John Ambulance Cymru success in the 2010s. Rest in peace.
Exciting news from Age Cymru Gwent .
To meet the growing demand for home support, we’ve taken the step of appointing our first-ever Independent Living Manager.
Amy is “Ready to make a difference”.
We provide life changing services across Aneurin Bevan University Health Board area.
Pleased to attend Welsh Ambulance “Connected Support Cymru “ webinar this morning. With 70% of people supported in the pilot over 65, I look forward to developing a holistic partnership in coming months Age Cymru Gwent @AgeCymru
The cruellest irony, as underfunded charities struggle, is that WG wouldn’t need to spend as much on the NHS if there was more support for unpaid carers or charities furthering independent living. WCVA | CGGC has to keep pushing this message, communities need us more than ever.
