Important day to repost this video from October where we unpack the con that is "affordable housing." We need council homes, not luxury flats.

"Profits were just scooped up. Then very skillfully such catch phrases as “the development of national wealth” were tacked on to these enterprises, which were thus completely justified. The capitalists were very shrewd" Takiji Kobayashi, 'TheCrab Cannery Ship', 1929

“House demand has been artificially inflated by a mix of lending rules relaxation and pressure from buy-to-let landlords and foreign investors. There’s no point in more council homes if waiting lists keep going up as private sector rents continue to rise” theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Sound point by Kirsty Major in today's The Guardian. 🔽 The crisis of people needing decent, truly affordable homes is not a supply side problem and will not be solved by developers. #RightforPeckham SHAPE Coalition (Southwark)💚 Peckham Vision

More participatory artwash crap on Aylesbury Estate. Thought this gross gravy train had died out. Everyone getting displaced out the area given magnanimously a "final voice" to draw their own removal. 🤮🤮

Infuriating. The highest level of corporate greed and criminality. They should all be in jail for what they hoped they’d get away with but instead robbed the lives of 72 innocent people.

"Eight years on, we've had no prosecutions. And justice can't continue to wait, in my opinion, and if you live in Britain, as we do, this should matter to every single person." Marcio Gomes, who lost his son Logan to the Grenfell fire: bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Around the country - and London in particular - developers are reducing their affordable housing contributions. Do we need a new model for building out large sites? Bit by me for The Developer thedeveloper.live/opinion/a-brok…

Companies like Arconic sold their combustible cladding globally. They need to open their books and let regulators know where it has been installed. 3,800 people lived in the tower which burned in Dubai at the weekend. The next ACM PE disaster will not be in the UK

Displacement of local traders is treated as a necessary byproduct of 'regeneration' by developers. But as we continue to see in Elephant & Castle this process wreaks emotional & financial havoc on those affected, alongside a social & cultural loss for the local community

The exhibition was as you could expect - all about people's memories and 'giving people a voice' and nothing particularly present about if any of those voices don't actually want to be displaced as a community out of the area. So bored of this approach!

This is extraordinarily good and a useful analysis of the Berkeley Homes development plan for the Aylesham Shopping Centre in Peckham and why people are right to resist it CGI below:
