Ottawa’s development charges may seem like a good idea, but they worsen the housing crisis by driving up costs. A better approach? 1) Property taxes aligned with neighbourhood service costs. 2) Growth within existing areas to expand the tax base and maximize infrastructure use.

More Canadians will vacation in 🇨🇦 this year. People visit a city for architecture, entertainment, vibrancy, and ease of mobility via public transit/walking. A city that invests in itself improves quality of life of its residents and attracts visitors. Ottawa can be that city.

Ottawa’s ByWard Market is bustling this Saturday afternoon with families and friends. People love to experience the ByWard Market’s pedestrian spaces, its unique shops, vendors, great restaurants, and vibrant public spaces. Ottawa needs more hubs like it.

The Sussex courtyards in the ByWard Market are too often overlooked. These public courtyards were parking lots before. Now they are places to relax, live, and shop. More of Ottawa could be like this, but the city’s land-use regulations hinder these sort of developments today.

Ottawa would work best if it was navigable for those aged 8 and 80. That means neighbourhoods with a mix of housing, commercial, services, amenities - reachable via accessible active and public transpo. It takes a village, let’s ensure that village we call Ottawa is built right

When parking is underpriced, like in ByWard, there is more demand than supply. Without better pricing to stimulate turnover people waste time looking for open spots. The answer isn’t more parking, it’s pricing parking properly + alternatives to driving - public & active transpo

Where is the City of Ottawa’s ambition? Ottawa’s public spaces, architecture, services, and more should match the city’s aspirations. Not fall to the lowest level of someone’s cynicism. Ottawa has incredible potential, we just need the leadership and will to seize it.
