Jacinta Allan has conceded that a watering down of bail laws in 2023 were a mistake. “I do acknowledge that we go it wrong,” she said.  The Premier is hoping the “tough” new bail laws will urgently pass parliament and be in effect by the end of next week.

A machete amnesty will run from September 1 to November 30 this year. People will be able to hand in their weapons to bins outside police stations. From Sep - machetes will be classified a prohibited weapon. An exemption must be obtained to use machetes for hunting/farming.
