#OTD in 1942, the 82nd Division was reorganized and redesignated the U.S. Army's first Airborne Division. Maj Gen. Matthew Ridgway was selected to be its first Division Commander and led the All Americans through Normandy. #AATW

On August 16, 1940, 48 volunteer members of the U.S. Army Parachute Test Platoon performed the first official U.S. military parachute jump. Over the years, Airborne forces jumped into combat in Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Afghanistan, and Iraq. #AATW
