Thank you Jonathan Rosa—and I would add that this so called "implicit racism" is acted out by those who often claim, EXPLICITLY, that they are "anti-racist" while in reality being "implicitly" racist (i.e., they are EXPLICITLY racist under the veil of being progressive allies).
That's a wrap for the 2022 Society of Pidgin and Creole Linguistics (SPCL) virtual conference. Shoutout to my first-year PhD advisor Michel DeGraff for coming out to support your boy 💪🏿 Now finished with this project and looking forward to what's next!
Thanasis Kinias @[email protected] Dr Alyssa #MovingWhereTheSkyIsBlue Sepinwall Yes, the la/lan-vs.-a/an pattern in Kreyòl articles is the *opposite* of what one might expect from off-the-shelf linguistic theories of markedness, and here goes flying through the window the hard-to-kill racist myth that "the world's simplest grammars are creole grammars"!!! 😅
What a delight to end our Fall 2022 colloquium series @ MIT Linguistics MIT School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences with the weeklong visit of Pwòf Nicole Holliday @MixedLinguist teaching us about sociophonetics and how it can help improve linguistics, education and make the world better nicolerholliday.wordpress.com
