Even this Renault Master feels like its got more quality than any new Mercedes, Or Audi. Even when the interior bits are plastic.

Built for the drivers BMW refused to abandon. The manual changes the car’s character completely. The is more power than the chassis ever needed, but the 6 speed forces you to meter it yourself. It’s the opposite of the dual-clutch version, slower, harder, and more deliberate.

Built because one market still believed engagement mattered, but why couldn't Europe get one? The manual exposes everything the S85 does well and everything it doesn’t hide. You feel the dip before it climbs, the long pull to redline, and the gear spacing that wasn’t designed

Built when the S class was shifting towards the Turbo era. The M273 fits the early W221 because nothing about it tries to impress. The power curve is clean, the response is direct, and the car moves without hesitation or lag. It doesn’t dominate the chassis, it just supports

The 4.0 TFSI gave the D4 more pace than most owners ever used. Smooth torque, instant response, and a chassis that stays composed at any speed. It’s not dramatic, not loud, just efficient at everything it does, perhaps not the fuel consumption when you floor it, but. The kind

Would the V6 TFSI Audi A7 be underrated. The supercharged V6 works because it reacts the same at any speed. It can work as a fast car too. Its got power like an S5 or an S4. But not complicated like the S7 or RS7. Its got the amazing looks and one of the best looking GT's of all

The F01 launched with the N63 because BMW needed a twin-turbo V8 since polar bears are crying. But that complemented comfort too with more torque. Yes it came with even more issues, but the lucky few that bought the car new got the full experience. Smooth delivery, quiet

A clear example of BMW’s engineering priorities in the late 80s and early ’90s. The M30B35’s 211 HP wasn’t about output, it was about durability, thermal stability, and a torque curve that suited real-world use. Paired with the E34’s rigid structure and straightforward

Where BMW transitioned its straight-six identity into the turbo era. The N55’s 302 HP arrived with controlled boost and less complexity compared to the previous N54, giving the F10 a measured character uncommon among large saloons of its time because it is on the sporty side too.

A mid-engine package built around balance, not hierarchy. The 360 HP 3.4 flat-six worked with a manual gearbox that prioritised precision over speed, resulting in a car whose capability came from chassis neutrality rather than output. Its performance sat below contemporary 911s
