It can be difficult to remember who you were before the pain, before the trauma, before the disappointments, before you were tagged with labels by other people. The truth is, their labels and limitations don’t define you. Your creator has defined you. You are enough! #StopSuicide

Most people who experience thoughts of suicide don't want to die. In most cases, they have lost hope and/or they’ve lost social connection. A kind word or listening ear could restore both. It could restore their faith in themselves and their connection to humanity. #StopSuicide

You are a wonderfully made tapestry of thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and there is no one else like you. You are unique and special, with value and self worth, and the world is better because you are here. You belong. Please stay; Tomorrow needs you. #StopSuicide

Black men are among the least likely to access mental health services, but it’s not because we don’t want help. Black men often struggle with showing vulnerability and sharing emotions. We need more research on the link between complex trauma and MH service use. #StopSuicide

We are approaching, perhaps the most important presidential election of the modern era. It is certainly among the most important in my lifetime, in terms of the impact on the direction of our nation. I will not tell anyone how to vote, but I will emphasize that your vote matters

When children have strong, nurturing relationships with the adults in their lives, they develop trust that they will be provided what they need to thrive, including love, acceptance, positive guidance, and protection, all leading to better mental/emotional wellness. #StopSuicide

Many of us have the opportunity to create a more meaningful check in with our family, colleagues or loved ones who might be struggling. Rather than a routine text, make time to ask how things are really going over coffee or lunch or a walk. It can save a life.

It can be exhausting, always trying to be more resilient, to be stronger, to be better, to be faster, to be smarter, to be more patient or kind, to be grateful, to just be “more”. Instead, focus on just being you, and know that it is enough, because you are enough. #StopSuicide

No one wants to be depressed and no one chooses to experience thoughts of suicide. Often, people who are experiencing suicidal thoughts are in deep emotional pain and are in need of hope. There is no hope in judgment but there is hope in empathy and compassion. #StopSuicide

We can all protect parents’ mental health by reaching out to have a #RealConvo, helping them stay connected, prioritizing self-care, learning about the warning signs, and connecting them to support. More from Victor Armstrong, MSW on the Surgeon General’s advisory: shorturl.at/vNZC0

I don’t live with severe depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts, but I can acknowledge and show empathy for the pain it causes others. We don’t share a diagnosis but we share a bond of humanity. Don’t suffer in silence or stifle your pain. You are not alone. #StopSuicide
