1/ What if there was a tool to help identify who might have exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI/PEI)? EPI is a significant issue for many people with diabetes (likely more common than gastroparesis or celiac). Here's how such a tool can help PWD👇🏼🧵 #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

2/ The Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency Symptom Score (EPI/PEI-SS) has 15 symptoms, rated by how frequent they are and how bothersome they are (aka severity). n=324 ppl participated in a real-world survey. n=118 were people with diabetes (PWD)! #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

Dana M. Lewis | #OpenAPS 🤖 (@danamlewis) 's Twitter Profile Photo

3/ Methods: EPI/PEI-SS scores were analyzed and compared between PWD (n=118), with EPI (T1D: n=14; T2D: n=20) or without EPI (T1D: n=78; T2D: n=6), and people without diabetes (n=206) with and without EPI. #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

Dana M. Lewis | #OpenAPS 🤖 (@danamlewis) 's Twitter Profile Photo

4/ Key findings: EPI=>high symptom burden regardless of diabetes (and type of diabetes). PWD with EPI had statistically significant higher mean EPI/PEI-SS scores than PWD without EPI, irrespective of other GI conditions (all group comparisons p<0.001). #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

5/ People with EPI have more symptoms, rate higher frequency and severity of symptoms. For example, PWD+EPI had avg of 12.59 symptoms, whereas those without EPI had fewer (7.36) and less severe symptoms. All comparisons were statistically significant. #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

6/ Based on this pilot study, the EPI/PEI-SS helps distinguish between EPI and other GI conditions. It can be a valuable tool for screening for EPI, including among PWD. Future studies will assess EPI/PEI-SS alongside fecal elastase testing. #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

Dana M. Lewis | #OpenAPS 🤖 (@danamlewis) 's Twitter Profile Photo

7/ In the meantime? Everyone can access and use the EPI/PEI-SS for free. It is now publicly available for use at bit.ly/EPI-PEI-SS-Web #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

Dana M. Lewis | #OpenAPS 🤖 (@danamlewis) 's Twitter Profile Photo

8/ If you’re a HCP: 👉🏼Consider pointing pts to the EPI/PEI-SS to help improve shared decision making processes around determining whether fecal elastase testing would be beneficial if you have patients with diabetes who report gastrointestinal symptoms. #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

Dana M. Lewis | #OpenAPS 🤖 (@danamlewis) 's Twitter Profile Photo

9/ Are you a person living with diabetes? Do you have gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms? You can use the EPI/PEI-SS (free & anonymous): bit.ly/EPI-PEI-SS-Web You can share your score with your HCP & discuss whether EPI screening makes sense for you. #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

10/ More details in this blog post, including additional details for HCPs who are curious about score cutoffs, AUC, etc: bit.ly/3KTTZSl Anyone can access the EPI/PEI-SS for free: bit.ly/EPI-PEI-SS-Web Questions? Feedback? 📧[email protected] #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

We believe that no one should have to die from not being able to buy insulin or because they cannot access it. We won't stop our fight until insulin is truly viewed as a human right by governments, companies, and individuals globally. #insulin4all #t1dadvocacy #advocacymatters

Another new CGM appears, the Microtech Aidex Linx. Or X. Depending on how you read the website. Looking a lot like a Libre3. Wonder how close to #Libre3 it is? The shop seems to ship globally.... #CGM
