2/ The Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency Symptom Score (EPI/PEI-SS) has 15 symptoms, rated by how frequent they are and how bothersome they are (aka severity). n=324 ppl participated in a real-world survey. n=118 were people with diabetes (PWD)! #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

3/ Methods: EPI/PEI-SS scores were analyzed and compared between PWD (n=118), with EPI (T1D: n=14; T2D: n=20) or without EPI (T1D: n=78; T2D: n=6), and people without diabetes (n=206) with and without EPI. #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

4/ Key findings: EPI=>high symptom burden regardless of diabetes (and type of diabetes). PWD with EPI had statistically significant higher mean EPI/PEI-SS scores than PWD without EPI, irrespective of other GI conditions (all group comparisons p<0.001). #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

5/ People with EPI have more symptoms, rate higher frequency and severity of symptoms. For example, PWD+EPI had avg of 12.59 symptoms, whereas those without EPI had fewer (7.36) and less severe symptoms. All comparisons were statistically significant. #ADASciSessions #ADA2024

6/ Based on this pilot study, the EPI/PEI-SS helps distinguish between EPI and other GI conditions. It can be a valuable tool for screening for EPI, including among PWD. Future studies will assess EPI/PEI-SS alongside fecal elastase testing. #ADASciSessions #ADA2024
