“They stayed, and will stay, because it is their job to do so. A directive issued by an invading army would never shift them, nor would a hand on the shoulder from a persuasive Hezbollah”. #IrishPolBatt #ValuesInAction☘️🇮🇪☘️

1/5 Remembering this day Alf Tighe, MM, of the Long Range Desert Group. Killed in action October 10, 1944. This is Alf, right, with Ron Moore, not long after they had come through a brutal ordeal in the North African desert in February 1941. Ron was a Kiwi, Alf from Manchester.

1/2 A conversation began yesterday about the fact there's no LRDG badge on the graves of its fallen personnel. When in 1948 a memorial was unveiled in Westminster Abbey commemorating the Submarine Service, Commandos, Airborne Forces & Special Air Service, the LRDG was overlooked.

1/2 France & Britain have different approaches to yobs who desecrate war memorials. A Moroccan who on Tuesday lit a cigarette from the flame on the tomb of France's unknown soldier was arrested & has had his residency card withdrawn. The Met police shrug. shorturl.at/QnS8p

For every retweet of this post, I will donate £1 to the Victoria Cross and George Cross Association up to £50,000. Time is running out following Imperial War Museums’s decision to close the Lord Ashcroft Gallery. Visit while you still can, to honour the bravery of those who risked so much to protect our great nation.
