I won in the classroom yesterday, which is also to admit that I lost the 11 days before. They read, smiled, & were eager. They also still did some weird stuff. But 11 days before one small win. This job is hard and personal. Normalize admitting the hard, resilience can’t be fake.

Staring at a closet wondering what outfit will take me from HS teacher, to elementary administrator mentee, to Title 1 STEM program, to Home Coming Dance pictures, to BOE meeting…and I realized it’s the accessory that counts. Coffee. I need to wear —- with coffee. #wokeuptired

FB memories told me the only thing I had forgotten about the death of a beloved student 12 years ago, whose suicide rocked us all, was he died on Oct. 17. My co-teacher & close friend (same school) passed away on Oct. 17 last year, and the aftershocks keep coming. Just…no.

Today is the hardest day in teaching. Putting on my superadulting clothes despite being “12,000 steps of trick-or-treating tired” because my students are having candy for breakfast…

Sat in the driveway of my HS for quite some time, watching this grown child swing at the park, all alone, just for the joy of swinging. Best thing I’ve seen so far today.💚 Even big kids are kids.
