I've just bought 5 copies of this by Subhadra Das a Museum Detox founder member and one of the most entertaining spikey conversationalist i know. She writes like she talks: fearless and sassy.
On the brink of its #VictorianRadicals exhibition, it's worth saying Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery itself was the fruit of a Victorian vision of art as imperatively for everybody. 'The day would come when a man would be ashamed to shut up a picture by Raphael in a private house,' said George Dawson.
The start of #LGBTHM seems a good time to share Bacchus by Simeon Solomon, looking glorious in the soon to open #VictorianRadicals exhibition Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Solomon's life was ruined as a result of society's criminalising & stigmatising of homosexuality. He died in a workhouse 1905. 😭
Blown away Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery by #VictorianRadicals - felt almost spiritual experience seeing works after so long with a wonderful new appreciation of their story. Wonderful to visit on first day open to public. Wow. #Birmingham
