This map showings historical landmarks in ancient Benin kingdom, supported by old maps & over a dozen informants, the dotted area also indicates the populated area of Benin (Edo) & Usama in past. The unpopulated areas were largely forests & farmlands, even until the colonial era.

These are burrows made by colonies of millipedes on the bank of earthworks, common on the earthwork btw Uwelu & Ugbowo in Edo state. The earthworks are homes to a diversity of animals & plants. It's important we consider the impact of destruction of earthworks on our ecosystem.

Breathtaking. In the collection in Addis Abeba I saw stone tools made out of petrified trees. Exciting! Wonder if they have such tools as well and what people thought about these ancient forests.

Nigerian leaders across the board have many flaws, and this is ok. They are human. No one expects perfection. But we expect sincere effort.

But 2 flaws that cut across leadership on all levels which I find difficult to forgive is lack of vision and imagination.

ARISE NEWS Laila Johnson-Salami Laila Johnson-Salami is on point! An EIA or ESIA is a public document. Anyone from the public has the right to see it. The project should NOT be allowed to start unless a formal EIA exemption has been issued by the Federal Ministry of Environment. Due process is not being followed.

ARISE NEWS Laila Johnson-Salami Also the Senator is incorrect, a project cannot start with a Preliminary EIA which is only a stage in the EIA process. A project can only start with an EIA certificate or a formal exemption from FMEnv. A Preliminary EIA is NOT sufficient for a project to start.

Record from Monsignor J. P. Omesa said, a huge metal cross was dug up in the site of the Holy Cross Cathedral in Benin when the foundation was being laid. Holy Cross is the 1st Catholic Church built by SMA priests in 1924. The Portuguese probably built a church at the spot.

Twenty (20) ancient Egyptian human skulls from the second Pitt Rivers collection are up for auction in Dorset

a grim reminder that it’s still possible for people (and auction houses) to profit from selling the body parts of African people in the UK today

Check out this mid 19th century Dane gun (Ghana)
Dane guns were originally a type of long-barreled flintlock musket imported into West Africa by Dano-Norwegian traders prior to the mid-19th century. The term is now used in West Africa to refer to any locally made gun of this type

This 16th-century cast bronze sculpture is one of the objects acquired from Benin before the 1897 looting. It was acquired by John Henry Swainson in 1892, probably as a diplomatic gift from Oba Ovonramwen. Swainson had accompanied Vice-Consul Galway to Benin City in March 1892.

There is lack of political sophistication in Nigeria. Citizens in a democracy need a sufficient level of political sophistication to make sense of politics and to hold office holders accountable.
