I think it is difficult to disagree that test driven development is bad thing, but I completely understand why most folks don’t practice it. What takes time (IMHO) is getting into the mindset of it and getting _good_ at it.

DrupalCon Portland will likely be remembered for the Starshot announcement from @dries. Now that I (and others) have had a few days to think about what it means, I have some thoughts:

“In an ‘airing of grievances’ one long-time community member quipped: There are approximately 38,000 (rounded up) contributed modules for Layout Builder. There are hundreds of blog posts about the right ones to use.”

One of the coolest demos I saw at DrupalCon Portland was “Collaborating Editing in Drupal Core” from the Palantir.net folks. Think Google Docs-style collaboration on a node edit page. - in every field, no less!

2-minute video of the demo: youtube.com/watch?v=U9WkzT…

The IXP Community Initiative aims to incentivize organizations to hire inexperienced developers by rewarding them with community contribution credits. We’d love your opinion on what an inexperienced Drupal developer should actually know!

If you're in the community, you probably know this to be true, but here's a couple of data points as well as some action items to get things going in the right direction:

core is getting smaller - not a bad thing, IMHO. The Forum, Action UI, and Statistics modules will not be in core 11.

Fantastic blog post from Phil Norton where he provides an overview of various contrib modules related to user logins. Even if you’ve been around Drupal for awhile, I’ll bet everyone will learn something from this article:

Interesting tidbit from the Portland 2024 module development workshop that I taught: of the 21 students who were there at the beginning of class, almost half of them used remote IDEs almost exclusively!

6 students used local or day-to-day.

It’s great to see a sprint in Greece, but I’d love to know more about it - what types of issues did they work on? Core? Contributed modules? How many people attended?

buff.ly/3K454zU

Where are the rest of the details!?

To the fine folks at WebWash, the title of this video and blog post are a bit misleading (IMHO) and maybe should change it (add the phrase “early prototype” somewhere). It’s great that you’re providing this info, but it doesn’t feel right to me.

Gwendolyn and I will be attending DrupalCamp Cemaes (Wales) in a few weeks. Looking forward to meeting new folks and possibly seeing some of our UK-based DrupalEasy @drupaleasy alumni!

Really well-written article by @DustinLeBlanc from Capellic about front-end performance with a nice example of troubleshooting and solving a caching issue:

Removing the web dot config file from Drupal core - this makes sense. I can't think of the last time I've heard or seen of a site running on IIS.

There’s no reason why this can’t just be a documentation page - see buff.ly/3WGcGAc

Great explainer by Gábor Hojtsy on how he updated a contrib module to 11 using only a web browser:

Seriously, the quality of our community’s tools just keep getting better and better a such rapid pace!
