“what struck me most about those who are protesting is how long they waited. the restraint they showed. not the spontaneity, the restraint. they waited and waited for justice. and it didn’t come. no one talks about that...” - Toni Morrison

NEW: I traveled to Flint in anticipation of the 10 year anniversary of the start of the water crisis. I door knocked and spoke w/ folks at the library & local coney island spots. They all had the same response: The Flint Water Crisis is far from over.

Huge news. Broadly speaking, this is not the state vs. farmers. This is the state protecting low-income people from dry drinking wells and sinking land that floods when it rains from billionaire growers who have over-exploited natural systems. Ian James latimes.com/environment/st…

Thank you to Sheldon Whitehouse and Ed Markey for their tireless efforts to end the fossil-fuel era and save America's future.

Mind-blowing that the Democratic majority is not right there with them.

Wheat is down 15%, oilseed rape/canola is down 28%, & winter barley is down 22%

These kinds of farm losses have been taking place all over the developing world in recent years. Will it move the needle with world leaders now that it's happening in the UK?

Just out: this superb, balanced long-read by Alexis Marie Adams, on the battles over old-growth forest in Montana & beyond. Ramifications for us all.

Happy to all who celebrate (i.e., everyone who likes to drink water, eat food, catch fish, watch birds, live in a stable climate, and not get swept away by floods and/or immolated by wildfire).
