Dr. Jessica Taylor I can see where this is coming from, but from reading the comments, I will say it is rather ableist to assume that everyone with a certain deadpan look is domestically violent. A lot of autistic people have what is known as a flat affect, and autism doesn’t cause violence.
Dr. Jessica Taylor Not really. A lot of autistic people are accused of being unempathetic for it. You can’t apply such a generalisation re flat affect to all individuals as it doesn’t necessarily mean that the individual concerned is violent, lacks empathy, or is some sort of psychopath
@amaratamblyn Dr. Jessica Taylor I understand what you are saying but I believe it's very different from flat affect. It's a very specific sinister look that some perps get. It's chilling. It's not a look of disconnection or absence.
@EranaJurd Dr. Jessica Taylor Reading the comments on this re “dead eyes” etc I think some people on this thread would posit that a look of disconnection or absence would be present, perhaps in addition to the look you describe, but nonetheless present
@amaratamblyn @EranaJurd Dr. Jessica Taylor I know and have worked with many autistic people, including children and I can assure you that it is very different to look a predator in the eyes than it is an autistic individual who is processing.
🦖Toria in McGilead 💚🤍💜 @amaratamblyn Dr. Jessica Taylor Yes I have worked with autistic children/young adults for over 6 years. It's world's apart.
